Bourbon and Sourdough: A Perfect Pair

July 18, 2022

Sure, you’ve tried an Old Fashioned cocktail before. But we can be sure that you haven’t tried an Old Fashioned like our Northwest Spirits Old Fashioned. Our rendition of the classic cocktail includes Bar Boss™ Bourbon, hints of stone fruit, infused with Brovo’s Douglas Fir Liqueur.

For the spirit enthusiast, let’s go in-depth and explore what makes this cocktail unique.

Our house specialty Old Fashioned seeks to bring the flavors of the Pacific Northwest into this most classic of whiskey cocktails. To integrate the local terroir and show appreciation for the immaculate natural world that surrounds us in Washington, we add a touch of Brovo Distilling’s Douglas Fir Liqueur; this adds a touch of freshness and resinous flavor reminiscent of bright citrus. Additionally, to highlight the agrarian traditions of the state we use specialty bitters with hints of stone fruit, giving our old fashioned a whisper of fruit behind the bold flavor of our Bar Boss™ Whiskey. To finish our cocktail, we use a lemon zest to highlight the brightness of the Douglas fir, as well as using locally grown and spiced Swizzle Cherries.

Craft Cocktails are not the only thing we specialize in. We also have a deep love and appreciation for sourdough. In fact, it’s in our heritage.

A shot glass filled with golden brown croutons sits on a plate on a wooden table. The croutons look crunchy and snackable. There is a bottle of Savor Spear bourbon whiskey in the background behind the croutons. There is also a cocktail off to the right.

Featured on our Small Bites menu, we offer Von’s Sourdough Parmesan Croutons. We use our treasured 65-year-old sourdough starter to make Sourdough Parmesan Croutons. Our two-generation sourdough starter has been passed down from our Executive Chef’s parents, who also happen to be incredible bakers.

These small bites of salty, tangy, crispy goodness are the perfect snack to accompany your Northwest Spirits Old Fashioned.

We look forward to seeing you in our Tasting Room soon. Cheers!
